A blog about crafting, cooking, reading, family, and enjoying all this life has in store!

Finishes abound…

I had a second finish last night!  I guess once the crafting mojo is back it happens like that!

This cute little guy was so much fun to whip up!  Only one more to make and a lovey of the same for the new baby!

First finish of 2015…

I was off to a bit of a slow start this year, with RL stuff.  I lost my crafting mojo and could not figure out what was going on.  As I was working on a sweater I was knitting one evening, it hit me.  I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing.  There is nothing less fulfilling than working on your hobby, only to find that you are dreading picking it up each night.  I began to think about what exactly was causing me to not enjoy what I was doing and the realization came to me.  I am, at heart, a crocheter.  I do enjoy knitting, and I’m glad that I took the time to learn, but limiting myself to exclusively knitting was becoming tedious to me.  I love my hand knit socks, and have enough sock yarn in my stash to knit over 20 pair, so I don’t intend to stop knitting them.  Everything else though, I know now, that I will mostly stick to crochet, with a few limited exceptions of projects I know I want to make.

Once I sorted all of this out in my mind, my whole focus changed.  Not only on my yarn crafting, but on crafting in general.  I have bogged myself down with so many different crafts that I want to do, or plan to learn, that I don’t have time for the ones that I truly love.  Now that spring is soon approaching in my neck of the woods, I plan to do a major overhaul of my crafting supplies.  The things that I have purchased and ended up not enjoying just need to go.  I keep hanging on hoping I will someday get the urge, but all I have is a massively cluttered closet.  I have been working tirelessly on purging and streamlining the girls toys, so I need to do the same for myself.  I have already begun by returning a ton of yarn that had been purchased with knitting projects in mind.  I was able to exchange it for yarn to make some cute crochet things that I can’t wait to get started on.  I will be making quite a few things for the girls spring/summer wardrobes, not to mention baby things once I find out the sex.

Another crochet love I am rediscovering is doily making.  There is just something so wonderful about using the tiny hook with thread to make something so beautiful.  I was recently gifted a box of crochet thread from a dear friend and my hook has been flying working on a gorgeous doily.

The last thing I have treated myself to is a book on learning to sew.  I have wanted to learn for years and for a multitude of reasons (excuses) on my part have never done it.  Well, now is the time.  When I receive the book, I plan to start working through the projects right away.  I can’t wait!

My hook is flying, and my brain is constantly churning with ideas and things I want to make, so it was no surprise when I created this gorgeous dress in just a matter of days…

My little one loves her adorable sundress!

The pattern, Girls Tiered Sundress by Sara Lora of Ball, Hank, and Skein, was a dream to work.  I have already started ona  second one for my other daughter.

So, tell me readers, what crafty changes are you making this year?  I’d love to hear in the comments!

Have a happy, hectic, handmade day!

Weekend Winding Up

Whew! This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one in the happy, hectic, handmade home! As you all know I’ve been really sick, which, despite the best efforts of my dear hubby, means my home has become not only hectic, but a disaster area. Now, normally, this wouldn’t be much cause for concern, I am pretty laid back about this and figure it will get done when it gets done. Only, this weekend, littlest DD is having her 3rd birthday party. My house needs to go from Do Not Enter, Hard Hat Only area to ready to entertain in less than 24 hours! This is going to be a major undertaking! I am working then finishing up the last of the errands for the birthday party. I have been on a kick to make the cakes, and made my older DD’s cake in December, but with how sick I have been I was worried about committing to the cake for Sunday, so we are having store bought. Have to pick that up and all the munchies before going home to tear through the mess to make some semblance of a neat house.

If there is any time left in the weekend, there are some crafty projects I am itching to work on! My toddler socks are slow going, as all socks are for me, but since the 4 year old is trying to take my socks, I figure I need to get on them. But, man, oh man, is it just me or does 4 inches of 2×2 ribbing really start to seem like 12 inches as it goes along…

I also have this cutie, who is in dire need of a dress. She has been waiting for quite some time…

I am unsure how much time that may actually leave me, but I’ve also just downloaded a new game, Dark Parables: Ballad of Rapunzel and can’t wait to get into it. That is my all time favorite game series and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I am also almost finished with A Fatal Waltz by Tasha Alexander and wouldn’t mind getting in a bit of reading time somewhere in there. Why can’t my days be 48 hours long???

Hope you all have a happy, hectic, handmade weekend!
